Thank you for supporting SURJ Bay Area's Fundraising for Stop Urban Shield. 100% of funds raised will be passed through to the coalition and be used to pay for mobilization supplies, such as food, water, and medical items and the community fair with Earthquake Kits, People's Fire Preparation, Medics, Self Defense and How to Be Cop-Free demonstrations.
Every donation matters -- whether it's $5 or $500. Thank you for supporting our chapter as we engage our collective access to resources while showing up for racial justice.

What is Urban Shield?
Urban Shield is a SWAT team training and weapons exposition that was created by the Alameda County Sheriff Ahern in 2007 that annually draws police, emergency and fire department from around the country and world send teams, including some with documented human rights violations. Urban Shield is federally funded through Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, requiring a nexus to terrorism, and trains militarized and repressive tactics that target communities of color. Local governments sink thousands of dollars in local resources as they contribute staff time, resources, and public space to the event.
What is the resistance to Urban Shield?
The Stop Urban Shield Coalition is a broad coalition of grassroots and social justice organizations organizing and mobilizing against Urban Shield. Over the course of the last few years, the Coalition has had many victories from forcing the City of Oakland to stop hosting Urban Shield in 2014, mobilizing 500 strong to the 2016 Urban Shield in Pleasanton and most recently organizing for Berkeley to pull out its personnel out of Urban Shield, packing a city council meeting with five hours of unified and diverse public comment. In response to this mounting community pressure, we have also seen the Alameda County Board of Supervisors initiate a Task Force of Urban Shield and reject an Urban Shield vendor over their racist products.
